ALT DUWISIB NATURE ESCAPE

Alt Duwisib is a remarkable destination on the fringes of the Namib, where our souls find harmony and a true sense of belonging. We are eager to invite you to experience this unique journey with us.

Discover the essence of our way of life in an environment that is simultaniously harsh and breathtakingly beautiful.

The challenging climate has compelled us to be innovative, utilizing our enthusiasm for nature, equines, wildlife, and self-sufficiency to sustain our livelihood.

AN EXCLUSIVE EXPERIENCE IN THE HEART OF NATURE

Perched on the mountainside, our two charming bungalows offer a peaceful retreat surrounded by the untouched beauty of southern Namibia. With breathtaking views stretching across the landscape, they are designed to bring you closer to nature while providing a comfortable and private place to relax.

With only two bungalows and a maximum of four guests, your stay is intentionally intimate and personal. Our activities are never crowded — experiences are enjoyed privately or in very small groups, allowing you to explore the landscape at your own pace and truly connect with the nature around you.

From quiet mornings overlooking the mountains to unforgettable adventures in the wilderness, we invite you to slow down, breathe in the open space and experience Namibia in a more personal and authentic way.

WILDLIFE

Our 5,600-hectare farm is home to a variety of Namibia’s wildlife. Since 2019, we have been committed to creating a safe and natural refuge where wildlife can thrive, and over the years we have seen a significant increase in both the number and diversity of game species on the property.

The farm is home to a wide range of species, including Sable, Kudu, Oryx, Blue Wildebeest, Ostrich, Hartebeest, Zebra, Warthogs, Springbok, Klipspringer and Steenbok, along with many other species of wildlife and birdlife.

We believe that experiencing wildlife is about more than simply seeing animals. It is about being immersed in their natural environment — watching them move freely through the landscape, observing their behaviour and appreciating the delicate balance of nature.

With its vast open spaces, rugged mountains and untouched wilderness, our farm offers guests the opportunity to experience Namibian wildlife in a peaceful and intimate setting, away from crowds and mass tourism.

OUR HORSES – BRED FOR QUALITY, RAISED FOR ADVENTURE

Horses are at the heart of what we do. We are passionate about breeding quality Appaloosa and Quarter Horses, with a strong focus on conformation, temperament, ability and soundness. Our breeding philosophy is simple: quality over quantity. We are highly selective about our breeding stock and carefully choose each pairing with the goal of producing exceptional horses that are suited not only to breeding, but also to performance, riding and life in the Namibian environment.

Our horses are raised with plenty of individual care and attention and receive a solid foundation from an early age. Growing up in the rugged conditions of southern Namibia, they develop the strength, toughness, sure-footedness and resilience needed to thrive in their natural environment.

Our passion for horses extends beyond breeding. Guests can experience these remarkable animals through our horse riding activities and multi-day riding safaris, exploring the mountains, plains and wilderness of our farm and surrounding areas.

Whether you are passionate about horses, looking for an authentic riding experience or simply want to discover Namibia from the back of a horse, we invite you to experience the connection between horse, rider and wilderness.

THE BEAUTY OF THE WILDERNESS

Take a moment to slow down and immerse yourself in the extraordinary beauty of southern Namibia. Our vast landscapes, rugged mountains and open plains reveal a world shaped by nature over thousands of years.

Discover how plants and wildlife have adapted to survive and thrive in this challenging yet breathtaking environment. From the smallest desert plant to the animals roaming freely across the land, every part of the landscape tells a story of resilience and adaptation.

Here, nature is not simply something to look at — it is something to experience, appreciate and connect with.

OUR CATTLE – WELL ADAPTED TO THE NAMIBIAN ENVIRONMENT

We keep a modest herd of Bonsmara and Boran cattle, including carefully selected crosses, for beef production. In our arid environment, responsible herd management is essential, so we deliberately limit the size of our herd to ensure that the available grazing and water resources are not overburdened, particularly during extended dry periods.

Bonsmara cattle are well suited to southern Africa’s challenging conditions. They are known for their hardiness, adaptability, efficient grazing ability, good fertility and excellent beef quality. Their resilience and ability to perform in heat and on natural veld make them a practical choice for our farm.

Boran cattle contribute additional qualities that are valuable in a dry climate, including heat tolerance, drought resistance, strong natural disease resistance and the ability to maintain condition on limited grazing. Their efficient use of natural resources makes them particularly suitable for the rugged conditions of our area.

The combination of Bonsmara and Boran genetics produces cattle that are well adapted to the local environment while maintaining good growth, fertility and carcass quality. By keeping a moderate herd and selecting animals for both performance and resilience, we aim to produce quality beef in a way that respects the limitations of the land and supports the long-term health of our farm.

SELF-SUFFICIENT LIVING

Although complete self-sufficiency may not always be possible, we take great pride and pleasure in producing as much as we can ourselves. We raise and harvest our own meat and cultivate a small vegetable garden that provides us with fresh, seasonal produce.

Our water and electricity are powered by the sun. Solar pumps draw clean drinking water from underground sources, while solar energy supplies the electricity we need for daily life and farm operations.

For us, self-sufficient living is about more than practicality. It is a way of life that encourages us to live responsibly, make thoughtful use of natural resources and remain closely connected to the land.
